Audemars Piguet x Matthew Williams
Audemars Piguet has unveiled a collaboration with fashion designer Matthew Williams and his label, 1017 Alyx 9SM, launching two self-winding Royal Oak and two Royal Oak Offshores. Williams, known for his luxury streetwear aesthetic, is also the creative director of Givenchy. This partnership follows Alyx's previous work with MAD Paris on customized watches.
The four references comprise two 18-carat yellow gold and two white gold models, featuring both Royal Oak 37mm and 41mm and Royal Oak Offshore 42mm. In a departure, this is the first time the same design has been applied to both collections. The dials have been stripped down to prioritize a monochromatic vertical satin finish, eliminating hour-markers and the date aperture on the Royal Oak models.
The 37mm self-winding reference displays hours, minutes, and seconds with luminescent yellow-gold hands and signature branding. The 41mm self-winding chronograph omits visible subdials, emphasizing the hands at three, six, and nine o'clock. Both are produced in limited series.
The two Royal Oak Offshore maintain a minimalist theme, preserving the iconic date aperture at three o'clock, with the Alyx signature at six o'clock. The chronograph counters at six, nine, and 12 o'clock have been removed, leaving only the hands. These models come with an additional black rubber strap.
An exclusive 41mm Royal Oak Chronograph with a two-tone case and bracelet, blending 18k yellow gold and stainless steel, was auctioned in Tokyo to benefit NGOs Kids in Motion and Right to Play. Each watch features a sapphire crystal caseback revealing an oscillating weight made of 22k yellow or white gold, engraved with the 1017 ALYX 9SM signature and technical references.
