Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph
Chopard's new 40.5mm Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is a watch designed to capture the unique challenge of a car race featuring vehicles from different eras. With cars ranging from 66 to nearly 100 years old, the watch needed to blend modern technology with classic design elements. Chopard drew inspiration from its long history of creating classic chronographs and the world of automotive racing.
The watch comes in four dial colors: light green, cherry red, racing black, and a two-tone blue dial with ethically-sourced gold accents. The knurled pushers and steering wheel motif on the crown provide a practical and stylish touch. The legible box crystal and red-tipped chronograph hand add functionality for racing purposes. The watches were tested in challenging conditions, including rain, and proved to be durable.
The watch features a solid automatic movement operating at 4Hz, with a stop-second function, subdials for 12-hour, 30-minute, and small seconds, and a date display at 4:30. The date window is well-integrated into the dial design. The inclusion of a sapphire caseback and COSC certification adds to the watch's value.
The watch's size of 40.5mm x 12.88mm offers a more wearable and versatile option compared to larger alternatives. The dial showcases a three-dimensional image of the iconic signs used during the Mille Miglia race. Super-LumiNova on the hands and numerals ensures legibility in low-light conditions.
Chopard successfully combines modern and classic elements in the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph. The watch's size, dial finishing, color choices, and font strike a balance between past and present. If this is an indication of Chopard's future Mille Miglia offerings, it's sure to impress racing enthusiasts.
