“Only Watch 2023” - De Bethune DW5 SP for Only Watch
The De Bethune DW5 SP for Only Watch 23 is a truly exceptional timepiece, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Its uniqueness stems from the material used for its case – a metal forged from iron ore found in close proximity to the De Bethune manufacture.
The DW5 SP stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to perfection. The case's metal is derived from iron ore collected near the manufacture and is meticulously processed to recapture ancient iron and steel-crafting methods. This intricate process involves forging individual components from a specialized metal obtained through a personal blast furnace. The surface patterns of the case result from the amalgamation of different metal preparations, all masterfully forged together.
Denis Flageollet, the mastermind behind this creation, embarked on a journey to create a unique fusion of iron and steel using iron ore sourced from L'Auberson. This endeavor included roasting the ore, crushing it into fine powder, and then reducing it through his low furnace's glowing charcoal to achieve a solid metal mass. This malleable material was then forged into a compact form, closely resembling the intended shape for machining. This intricate and time-consuming procedure spanned several weeks, with months dedicated to research and development.
The ingenuity of the De Bethune team is showcased not only in the case but also in the movement. A specially crafted tourbillon movement adorns the watch's reverse side, offering an enchanting view. This unique masterpiece encapsulates a connection to both the ancient methods of metalwork and the innovative spirit of contemporary watchmaking.
