Patek Philippe World Time Date, Tokyo Limited Edition
Patek Philippe has unveiled its latest creation, the World Time Limited Edition Tokyo 2023 ref. 5330G-010, during the Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Tokyo. This exclusive timepiece is limited to just 300 pieces and will be available exclusively in Japan. What sets this watch apart is that it is the first world time model from Patek Philippe to feature a date display, making it a significant addition to their collection.
The watch boasts a unique guilloche dial in a vibrant purple hue, which pays tribute to the thematic color of the exhibition. Notably, the dial subtly incorporates references to Japan, further enhancing its appeal to the Japanese market.
While the ref. 5330G-010 may not be the flagship complication of the event (that title is claimed by the ref. 5308P Quadruple Complication), it perfectly embodies the quintessential characteristics of a Patek Philippe timepiece. The world time complication has a strong association with the brand, and the addition of a practical date display is done elegantly and with sophistication – in line with Patek Philippe's renowned approach to movements.
Measuring 40mm by 11.57mm, the case of the ref. 5330G-010 is slightly larger than the World Time ref. 5230, yet it remains the largest contemporary world time model without additional complications. The white gold case boasts a vintage-inspired design with slim, stepped lugs and a rounded case middle, reminiscent of the recent Calatrava 24-Hour ref. 5224R.
Distinctive details on the dial make it evident that this is the Tokyo 2023 edition. The city name is marked in red on the world time ring, and the "12" on the 24-hour ring has been replaced by the Rising Sun symbol. A notable feature is the date hand in the center of the dial, a first for Patek Philippe. The date hand is made of glass and features a red-lacquered pointer, adding a touch of innovation to the timepiece.
Under the hood, the ref. 5330G-010 incorporates a new date mechanism consisting of 70 parts, adding approximately 0.7 mm to the thickness of the movement. The date hand operates on its own going train, allowing the date to move in synchronization with the time display, both forwards and backward.
